When buying a veranda, it is important to choose roofing that suits your taste, needs and situation. There are a number of different options and they all have different advantages and disadvantages. Deponti is happy to list the options for you:
With a glass roof in your veranda you can even look at the trees, birds and stars from under your veranda! This gives a beautiful and luxurious look and ensures that your veranda looks spacious. In addition, glass is a sustainable choice, because glass does not perish and can last for years.
Besides the fact that it looks spacious and gives a nice view, a glass roof also has disadvantages. For example, dirt and grime are quickly and easily visible on a glass roof. In addition, glass does not block heat or light, so you may have to purchase additional (overhead) blinds to determine whether you want to sit under your veranda in the sun or prefer to keep the heat out.
A good example of veranda with a glass roof is the Deponti Pigato. With this veranda, in addition to the color, you can also choose the details and finish of the veranda yourself!
Polycarbonate is a sturdy, hard material. A type of plastic material. Although the material is enormously strong, polycarbonate channel sheets are still flexible, bendable and lightweight. This makes them easy to install. The reason many people choose polycarbonate roofing is because it is generally cheaper than glass. Another reason is that there are many different options in polycarbonate in terms of "color" and light transmission. Below is a brief description of the most commonly chosen types of polycarbonate:
Opal
The opal variety is milky white in color and the most commonly chosen polycarbonate type for verandas. The sheets are not transparent, but still provide a lot of natural light in your veranda. Big advantage is that opal polycarbonate filters the bright rays of the sun, thereby filtering the heat a bit and converting it into soft white light in the veranda. This roof covering is definitely recommended when you have a south-facing garden.
Clear
Clear polycarbonate roofing is partially transparent, making it ideal if you like a higher level of light and want to create a more spacious feeling in your veranda. The look of clear polycarbonate is also said by some to be more luxurious than opal sheets. Clear polycarbonate sheets are also highly recommended when your veranda is in a place where less light enters anyway. The disadvantage of clear sheets is that, as with glass, you are more likely to see dirt and drops.
Ultra-clear
Do you prefer glass but is your veranda (or budget) not suitable for this? Then ultra-clear polycarbonate is a perfect choice. This is because this type of roof comes closest to the look of glass and is the most translucent polycarbonate option possible for a veranda. The main difference from clear polycarbonate is the width and structure of the channels in the sheets. This difference is easily seen in the images on this page.
Solar control
You can also choose solar control polycarbonate. In appearance this roofing material looks the same as the opal sheets. The difference with normal opal sheets is that solar control lets less heat through because of an extra layer that blocks heat. This option is less interesting if you have an open veranda, but is definitely worth considering if you have a veranda with glass sliding doors.
